Where Art Thou Tooth Fairy?

May 1st, 2012

The other morning, my youngest, who I'll call Mozart on here, came out of his bedroom at around 6:15 am crying that the Tooth Fairy never came.

If only you could have seen the sheer shock on my face as my jaw dropped to the floor. I gasped lightly, stuttering my words, “Oh honey, she just didn't come yet and it's still dark out, just go back to bed and I'm sure she will be here very soon."

With his head down, he aimlessly walked backed to his room in complete devastation. I could hear soft whimpering from under his breath. I felt so bad.

What the heck was I thinking? I never forget such important details of my child's life! But yes, I had totally forgotten to throw my wings on and hover over his bed, slipping that ever so cherished dollar under his pillow. What kind of a Mother am I? (Apparently a Mom with too much on her plate.)

Then my oldest, DaVinci (another blog name) certainly didn't make me feel any better. Since in high school, he wakes in those early hours as I do. He decided to sit down next to me and tell me his little story about his tooth fairy moment. All the while with a big grin on his face.

DaVinci explained it was one night that he could not sleep very well. He said he felt a hand slithering under his pillow where his tooth had been and a second later, the hand returning. He said he poked his head up and observed me sneaking out of the room as he slid his own hand under the pillow and felt his pot of gold. He was nine.

Great, like that was supposed to make me feel any better I told him!

I then carted off Davinci to the bus stop as I was praying Mozart would be asleep by the time I return. The clock was ticking real close to 7am(rise and shine time) and I knew I had to make my move real soon.

Ahhh, but the anxiety began to take it's toll on me now. Mozart could not fall asleep! Every time I stepped into his room to make my fairy move, the damn cat would meow! And of course Mozart popping his head up each time. And that happened three times! You would have thought by then he would have realized what I was doing. (But I don't think he did.)

Finally, just minutes before he was set to get up for school, he fell asleep and thankfully Lily the cat did too. I quickly threw on my wings and snuck in with his three dollars (Yeah, I remember only getting a quarter) as my body hovered very slowly trying to make my move. As my hand slipped under his pillow trying so hard to grasp that tooth (that so happened to be placed in a plastic baggy!), Mozart's head pops up dazed and confused!

Yikes!

So I whisper, "Go back to sleep honey, I was just checking to see if the Tooth Fairy had arrived." (At the same time I was gently scrunching the baggy in one hand as I softly pushed the three dollars in with the other.)

Again, at that very same moment, I watched his hand slither under his pillow as he instantly felt his pot of gold. He then propped himself up with a big smile on his face and was just so happy the Tooth Fairy had arrived!

Whew! That was close!
