Let Us Give Thanks

What is the true meaning of Thanksgiving? Is it giving
thanks to everything our lives behold and portray or grateful Walmart's
Black Friday specials will be the best deal in town?
I have a bit of a problem with retailers this year trying to interfere with such a sacred and meaningful holiday. Shopping this year begins as early as 8pm Thanksgiving Day and that to me is just wrong. But to them, it's all about money. They don't care about closing for one day and recognize the true meaning of Thanksgiving. They don't care if their employees hold Thanksgiving Day sacred. It turns out to be everyone's loss, not just for them but to all families and friends. The loss of the true meaning on this very special day.
So what is Thanksgiving to me? It's about my family, friends, and the community I live in. It's about giving thanks to God for the many blessings I have and the many friends and family I hold dear. It's not just the football games, the turkey, or the Macy's Parade. It's about us.
Thinking about my life, one thing that stands out the most are my boys. I cannot imagine life without them. Just yesterday, my 1st grader wrote his five sentences for school. It read; I saw a lepreckan, I like my hamster, I love my Momme, I love my Dad, I love my famlee.
Now how precious is that. A perfect example of how thankful I am for just the little things that mean so much. And the oldest who's 15. I am blessed with a boy that has such enjoyment out of fishing that he never gives himself time to get into trouble. And my second oldest boy, what a pleasant, mature 12 year old who you could just wrap your little fingers around, grabbing his cheeks, and squeezing all the love.
Then my third in line, my little 9 year old. One word really. Unique. He is sharp, outgoing, strong, agile, and never misses a beat. Thank you boys for being who you are, I am so thankful.
To the rest of those who are actually considering making this leap of shopping for this holiday season, stop for just a moment and look around. See the world around you and see how blessed you are by all the little things. Then you'll know how thankful you really are.
So please choose family over Black Friday. Hold on to this holiday tradition. Not only for you but for your family too.
Happy Thanksgiving!
