Campaign Confidence

July 31st, 2012

I will have to admit, I have been on the sidelines for the majority of this campaign here in District #5, but I have observed plenty in the past couple of weeks and wanted to give you a birds eye view on what I have seen. Just observing the confidence alone in both candidates is simply amazing.

Just this morning as I took my son to work, the Nance campaign staff along with Tim and his wife, were greeting the cars that zoomed by off Immokalee Road near Collier Blvd. I have never seen such a staff with such determination for a candidate in my life. Everywhere function I go to, the blue Nance shirts are everywhere! If that gives you any indication of how many feel here in our District, I don't know what will.

On the other side of this campaign is incumbent Jim Coletta. My husband said he saw Jim and his wife out there yesterday on Immokalee Road waving the signs, greeting those who pass by. Determination succumbs him for sure and it certainly shows.

Then we have Robin Hood, or John Lundin I should say. I just met him the other day at the debate at the Golden Gate Community Center. He seems like a very nice man, but whenever I hear his name, I want to throw on some tights, grab my bow and arrows and run for the hills! It's weird, but it's all I have in my head. Sorry John.

I have also noticed what the newspaper has been or has not been printing as far as news for our district. When I went to read Sunday morning's paper on their district #5 endorsement, personally I was shocked. I really expected to see Tim Nance as their endorsement. And you want to know why?

Because not only did Tim do great jobs at the debates held in the past but he also won two straw ballots. The last one was Nance at 329 and Coletta at 166. I also didn't appreciate the comment of dismantling government in that article. Now where in the world did that come from? No one wants to dismantle the government. That was just plain wrong and not very nice either.

That endorsement alone for Jim has enlightened his campaign and giving him a big boost whether some may like it or not. Yes, we do have Arthrex and yes we do have a new economic development department. But are they the same people as on the last economic department that has since gone awry? Someone please enlighten me on that. I have not looked into yet.

Then yesterday as I was having quiet work at the Orange Blossom Library, I realized that it was the first day of early voting. And wow, was it busy as the many staff and some candidates crowded voters as they walked in. What I really thought was awkward was McDaniel setting up the canopy for the

Coletta campaign and then moving over to the side with his sign, alone. I just thought that was weird. But I do think they are friends. Again, determination at it's best. Nance showed up, said hello, visited for a a spell with the many people and headed out. Very interesting day indeed.

I guess I will end it by saying, "May the best man win".
