$11 Million Dollar ATV Park?

October 30th, 2012

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's hold our horse's now! What is it I read yesterday? A preliminary price tag on the $3 million dollar ATV park has ballooned up to the possibility of $11 million bucks? Are you kidding me? Anyone even remotely involved in any number above and beyond this $3 million can seriously kiss my rubber duck! And I mean it.
This whole article called "Committee seeking Collier ATV riding spot hitting a bumpy trail so far", certainly has given me the idea that it's more than likely not going to happen. Promise or no promise. I am very sorry to say that but it may be reality. It seems no private owner, no environmentalist, and no public offering will be made.

And yes, I clearly understand that promises were made over a decade ago and many efforts have been made to find an ATV park. An effort that was certainly owed for sure. But when is the time going to come when the county throws their hands up and calls it quits? Once the last ditched effort has been made, why not consider shifting this $3 million dollars to the Big Corkscrew Island Regional Park? This way everyone here in the Estates can benefit. It's something Parks and Rec, the Commission, and The Estates really need to consider.

Then going on to read, "He(assuming Pelletier) also balked at preliminary talk of an $11 million price tag, but Winchester Lakes President Joe Bonness said he envisioned the possibility of pooling money with the water management district to allow the district to use the lakes as water storage."
What the heck does that mean? Pooling money with the water management district? Can someone explain this in better detail please? That whole paragraph threw me off. If I read it correctly in my mind, it just reads one big mess with $11 million attached to it!

"Pelletier said the committee's first choice is to find a spot in Collier County, but the committee already is eyeing a possible partnership with owners of the Devil's Garden Mud Club in Clewiston."
That right there is not part of the deal from what I understand and in no way should our county even allow this $3 million out of Collier County even if it's partnering up with another park. Maybe they can work out a deal for special passes for Collier County residents in exchange for free advertising here? A good thought.

This needs to come to a rest very soon. It's driving me bonkers! Please, let's make efforts with Consolidated Citrus and Lazy Springs and make it our last. If all hope fails, please consider donating this money to the Regional Park here in The Estates. This would be great benefit and a wonderful addition to our community.
