Bureaucracy of Life
February 12th, 2012
Per Wikipedia: A bureaucracy is an organization of
non-elected officials of a government or organization who implement the
rules, laws, and functions of their institution, and are occasionally
characterized by officialism and red tape.
Even though they say bureaucracy is the most efficient form of organization, I think it's getting a bit out of hand here in Collier County. It seems it's a constant in everything I try to work on, always running into the never-ending red tape. There is so much red tape out there, I need a pair of scissors the size of Mount Everest to cut it! Nothing seems to be getting done and personally I can't stand it!
FIRE DEPARTMENTS
All I keep saying to myself when I read the never ending articles about consolidating is, "Why don't you just consolidate already!" Sometime I wonder if I should step in and do it. I bet I could get it done in a couple of weeks, even though I have no clue!
But then again, the real problems seems to be too many Chiefs and not enough Indians. And the sad part of it, no one wants to take a pay cut. And I can't blame them. I took a step back and placed myself in their shoes, their families, and their lifestyles. A very unfortunate situation indeed. Pay has been good, times have been better, and life still shows many promises. But we all know the recession has now taken it's toll on everyone, including our firefighters. This profound situation clearly shows that consolidation is the inevitable and the bureaucracy involved needs to be a bit less bloated.
VIRTUAL FLYERS
If you do not know by now, a change has come forth to our school system. Virtual Flyers.
No more will you get those flyers home from schools guiding us to that next soccer season, the next cheer-leading camp, or the next baseball and football season.
This decision simply needs to be reversed or we need to find a way to let the community know. No one knows! Going green or not, the school district is going to cost the many Leagues and Parks and Recreation a ton of money! We really need to look into this very soon. I hope we can come up with a great solution and fast.
For now, you can find all flyers at www.collierschools.com/. Scroll down to the backpack on the left bottom corner.
YOUTH PARTICIPATION
As we all know, we need more kids involved in society. The most recent Youth Fest we put on held many opportunities and was a great success. Though I must admit, we would have liked to have seen more kids that day, yet I have to remind myself of all the events on that same day too.
Another thing and I don't know quite how to describe it or put it into the right words, but I felt like I was pulling my teeth trying to get schools involved. Is there some sort of unwritten rule not to promote local events that help our kids? Or is this more of the bureaucratic fixed rules and superiority over people like me? Do we not matter? Is it that hard?
Thankfully Kamela Patton cared about that situation I was succumbed too. She must have made that special "red phone" call to all of the schools that I had requested help from and got them to announce the Youth Fest. Thank you Kamela! We hope to have you on board again next year.
So with all this read and done, it seems too much bureaucracy is everywhere and it is very unfortunate. I will just plan to keep pushing along, doing what I can, and maybe someday, life will be a little less complicated.
