Wonderful Thanksgiving Weekend Fractured

Here we go again! The last day of such a wonderful five day Holiday weekend turns out with a broken arm. I am writing this and have yet to see a doctor to know if my son's Nickolas's arm is even fractured, though I'm sure it is. It's happened twice before, same arm, same place. The last bone snapped and needed surgery so it must be broken.

I called Dr.Gates last night and he assured me I can come in today after his surgeries. He said, "let the ladies know even if they say no, but to tell them I said so!" "Wow, thanks," I said, "I will do just that, thank you!"

The reason he is being so nice because this is Nickolas's third time and the poor kid is only ten. Apparently he remembers him well.

Now you are probably wondering why I haven't rushed him to the emergency room? Well, I will tell you why and you can also learn from it.

The first time I took Nickolas in when he fell on the sidewalk onto his arm at my sister's house. Of course I panicked with it being our first break amongst the kids, so I rushed him to NCH. That whole ordeal cost me 3 hours of time and $1500 bucks! And that was with insurance. All they did was X-ray, wrap it up and gave me a name of a Orthopedic doctor, Dr.Gates.

Second time, which happened less than a month after his first cast was off, I stayed home, calmly calling the doctor and scheduling an appointment by the next day. Nickolas was a trooper that day. He broke it on the playground at his school and was clearly upset and in pain. He managed to hang on until the appointment, poor kid. I am thankful for Motrin and Tylenol. This time it snapped in half needing surgery.

So this time, almost three years later, here we go again. It happened once again at my sisters house. This time he was playing football with Daniel his brother and cousins Spencer and Sam. Apparently as he fell down with his arm bent, hand firmly to the ground, cousin Spencer accidentally fell onto that arm. "Ouch!" You know that hurt. There goes wrestling season.

The funny thing too about Nickolas, he was determined to go to school today. He is a perfect attendance kind of kid and is going to make sure he gets it! Gotta love him.

Great, I just got off the phone with the doctor's office and he is able to come in at 4:15. Wish me luck!
