City Council requests $700,000? The Estates says,"No Way!"
February 7th, 2011
I just wrote a letter to all the commissioners this morning and to Barry William with parks and recreation. I am placing it here for you to read because I feel this is getting out of hand as we in The Estates consistently sits on the back burner always getting burned.

Good Morning,
After reading this mornings paper about the $700,000 requested from Naples City Council for their parks, recreation and beaches, a big "no way" came out of my mouth.
For one, haven't you noticed out here in The Estates area, our young are becoming a little more than a handful with their hate crimes, murders, and who knows what's next? Have you thought that maybe focusing on a park some frustrations could be released as we focus on a more "family oriented" community?
I just spent around $280 for two of my children to play baseball, and unfortunately they have no where to practice. The coaches have to wing it with other coaches to figure out where they can practice next. A park would alleviate all of this. It's not fair for us to pay that kind of money for an organized baseball team when there is no room for play.
I understand there is no money, so how to even consider handing over $700,000 to The City of Naples is beyond me. As read, according to the 2010 participation numbers, the participation level for non-city residents are high. Did you know that 25% of those non-city residents are from The Estates area because they have no choice? Wouldn't a park alleviate those numbers tremendously?
So this brings me back to our Big Island Corkscrew Regional park. We are patiently waiting on the master plan from parks and recreation to come through and you know as well as I do, funding needs to come out here, and come out here soon. Please, this Wednesday, as I try hard to focus on our community out here in The Estates, reconsider this $700,000 and start focusing on a our park instead.
