My Best Job Ever!

November 10th, 2011

Have you ever wanted a job where you're on your own, no executives, no paperwork, no mandatory time schedule other than punching in/out, yet having the pleasure of beauty, the wildlife, sunshine and fresh air all day?

Well, I just got that job! The best job ever! You can now call me the Olde Cypress Beverage Cart Girl! (Part time of course).

This past week I was asked by my husband to come into his work at The Club at Olde Cypress and help out due to an illness by one of their staff members, Gail. I reluctantly accepted on the terms I work only two days a week until Gail returns. He wanted four,I got three, and they since hired my sister Mary to help too.

I can't work much more than two days. I worked three this week and I am just exhausted! I haven't worked outside the home in almost 16 years! Do you know how much laundry that is? Let's just say the kids were climbing a mountain. And the house, what a mess!

Caring for four boys is one demand all on it's own, but add pets, homework, vacuuming, dishes, bills, sports, meetings, clubs, errands, dinners, and everything else in between! Oh, and my blog, how can I go without my blog! Good Heavens! Forget it. How most families do this is beyond me. God help all of you. (I truly mean that).

At work I jump into my fully stocked cart, soak up a few warm rays of sun, dab on a little pink flashy lipstick, breathe in some fresh Southwest Florida air and I'm on my way to such elegance of a golf course. And what artistry! That alone gives the golf course such magnificence and peace.

As I cruise the speed on my cart, I pass along the beauty of not only the members and the course, but the wildlife as well. Heck, I even brought my camera yesterday just to snap a couple of pictures of the big cypress fox squirrel that are the most majestic animals I have ever seen. They look like a mixture of a squirrel, honey badger, fox, and raccoon. I have never seen anything like them before. Awesome.

I continue my travels with the cool breeze running through my flowing blonde hair (which looks like hell at the end of the day) as I am then waved by my first customer. A member more interested in who I am than the need for that ice cold beer, snack, or gatorade. I tried so hard not to mention my last name since my husband Dan is the Executive Chef. But low and behold, the word spread faster than a speed of light and everyone and their brother all know it now. (The best thing about that I hope; no complaints!)

The members there are just the most fun and gracious people I have ever met. Though there was one that put me in my place a couple of times on my first day ever, but I let little stupid things like that roll off my shoulders and say a quick prayer and I'm on my way!

The upstairs in the kitchen my husband asked why he doesn't see me when it's lunchtime in the club. I tell him, "Why do I need come up here? I have all I need right there on my cart!" "I have sandwiches, drinks, snacks, candy bars, fruit." "What more do I need?"

He then asks if anyone is eating out there. I respond, "Yeah, me!"

My husband said I should come and take a break anyway. And I say, "Break? Why do I need to come and take a break for, I'm on break all day!" (Then I thought maybe he just wants to see me).
It's true, or maybe I am seriously wet behind the ears and I'm not yet busy, but really, it is the best job ever!

So hopefully I can maintain my two whole days outside of the home and enjoy some work. It will probably do me some good to get out. My husband is happy now he has me under his wing. Before you know it, I will be covering Renee's' vacation, Ken's days off, Jonathon's sick days, Michael's planned day, and who knows, maybe I can cover my husbands shift! (Yeah, right! Me of all people in the kitchen. Never!)

I am now relaxed, just finishing up my cup of coffee as I sit here typing in my pajamas. My day off of course. Maybe I can get some work done around here so I can get my strength back up to go out and do the best job ever all over again!

Have a great weekend!
