The Estates Getting Embarrassed

January 30th, 2011

I sent this letter to the editor yesterday in hopes it will be posted.
As my husband quoted after reading the Naples Daily News, "The Estates needs to get it together. Dylan Nuno's murder, grow houses, thankfully the capture of an abductor off Golden Gate Blvd, then a 60 year old school volunteer arrested for molestation of children. All of which live out here in the Estates!"

I am very happy living out here in the Estates but honestly, it's becoming embarrassing. I would like to share some member comments from "The Estates Community " page on facebook:
--It makes us look like trash out here; it doesn't help that housing values have plummeted; less pride being taken in owning property; properties looking despicable. One goes on to question as a new Estates resident if he made the right choice?

Thankfully we have comments by Patti Monahan. She stated, "We have a large area and compared to some areas in town, our crime rate is actually low. Compared to years ago, our police force has grown alot as most of our officers are living out here. There's been so much growth in the last 20 years and growing pains are a normal part of the process. Still, all in all, I think our community is unique and fantastic. I can't imagine living anywhere else (in Naples) even though I long for the days when we would greet the new neighbors with desserts and parties. We can still do that. We need to use our technology and groups to bring our neighbors closer so we can grow, learn, and be there for each other more. If we can do it sitting on a Facebook page on a computer, we CAN do it outside of the comfort of our desks."

So there you have it. My thought of the day! Have a great weekend! And please, join us on facebook. Copy and paste the page below and you're all set!
