My Brother's Journey-Part One
April 28th, 2011
I want to give a scenario of who my brother is before I move
on to a little trip he is on right now to Brazil delivering a plane to
someone there. Given this little excerpt from Facebook, I want to give
you an idea of his personality before I type on. Here goes:
Trip to the Vet for a cat in a bad fight: $670 dollars. Filling up my Blazer after paying $670 dollars for a trip to the Vet for a cat in a bad fight: $59 dollars.6 pack of Warsteiner Dark after paying $670 dollars for a trip to the Vet for a cat in a bad fight and $59 dollars to fill up my Blazer: Priceless.
That's my brother Bruce for you! Typical humor of his every day life on earth. Now I shall bring you into his world of flying and working with airplanes. His most favorite hobby and job he has taken on in his young life, I will admit, I am truly envious of the life he does lead. Adventurous indeed.
I take all of these comments posted through my emails and through Facebook in his recent days on his journey thus far. I told him I would like to do this for him so all of his friends can keep tabs as well. I will write as his trip goes on until his safe return back to Florida.
Sunday-April 28th, 2011:
Delivering this little Turbo Arrow III to Sao Paulo Brazil this month. Lots of islands...Lots of culture....Lots of Amazon....TONS of gas!
Monday-April 18th, 2011:
Brazilian Visa & Passport... check. Maintenance annual on the plane.... check. Flight planning en route.... check. Venezuelan overflight permit... check. Homework on unfriendly Amazon tribes... double check.
Balls to actually do this in a single engine plane?.... um... well, I guess.
Wheels up this Saturday 0600!
Friday April 22nd, 2011:
24 hour delay due to export permit being delivered late, but my ride is ready. Sunday now....0600 gear up. Need to make Grenada Sunday night to stay on schedule....bets anyone? :)
Easter Sunday-April 24th, 2011
5:33am-
N144RR is on the rollout.... Happy Easter Everybody!!!!
"Whether outwardly or inwardly, whether in space or time, the farther we penetrate the unknown, the vaster and more marvelous it becomes."
-- Charles A. Lindbergh"
1:06pm- Made Turks & Caicos.
1st leg down, slightly behind schedule. We took off out of FXE and Customs made us land at FLL five minutes after taking off. Just so they could "inspect" the plane....what a joke. Anyway, we are getting fueled and headed to Anguilla now, Unfortunately, Grenada will not be in our sights tonight. Tomorrow will be Grenada, then Georgetown Guyana, then hopefully into Brazil at Boa Vista. Airplane is running great, although somewhat slow....we average around 135-140 knots. ........Ack."
I hope the Easter Bunny is treating everybody well! : )
Monday April 25th, 2011
8:22am-
Lost our Vacuum pump over St. John, successfully landed in Anguilla. Easter holiday, hoping to get the pump flown in and installed by this afternoon latest. Not a bad place to be stranded though, I must admit!
4:06pm- Anguilla Castaway here....
" Hi Net!" (That's what my brother calls me)
I tried to post this to Facebook, but it's too long...
Planes getting fixed as I type, hopefully off to Grenada first thing tomorrow, then Georgetown Guyana, then Boa Vista, Brazil by tomorrow night. Anguilla is really great....no tourists at all, truly the real Caribbean. We helped the local villagers with a 1/2 mile beach net today....something I will never forget. We must have hauled in 200+ fish, then we all feasted....absolutely one of the coolest things I have ever done! National Holiday for these guys today, off to the Beach & Sunset Festival now, this island is ROCKING!!... do we really have to fix this plane??? :)
Tuesday April 26th, 2011
5:48PM- Hangin' Saint Vincent
Finally.....found a computer. We are staying at Beachcombers St.Vincents, and the place is beautiful. Made it within 30 miles of Grenada and weather stopped us. Today was just a lot of weather and three different approaches to three of the wrong islands by the PIC....and let me tell you, it wasn't me. :) We are truly two different types of pilots.
Just stopped raining finally.....and to think this is their dry season. On to Georgetown straight tomorrow, then Boa Vista.....
Say hi to the Fam....no cell coverage here and yours is the only email address I have. Wow.....what a trip thus far.......Watching Channel 6 local news Miami/Fort Lauderdale...... how ironic.
Wednesday April 27th, 2011
12:49PM- No more water..... : )
Made it to Guyana, now off to Boa Vista Brazil to overnight tonight..... Now I deal with Jungle. Yippee..... All good.... ;o)
10:44pm-Made it to Boa Vista
Hi Net....all good here...made it to Boa Vista. WOW.......that was some real flying, let me tell you! No phone service in Brazil...will keep you posted. XO :)
12:19am- Facebook post;
Boa Vista Brazil finally! 135 knots of screaming Piper Arrow III !!! (what can I say...not exactly the Concorde here) May or may not head out tomorrow to Itaituba, paperwork is perfect on our side, totally wrong on their side. Ahhhh yea........Roger that. Guyana was an experience to say the least. Ahead still....the mighty Amazon. For now, my best Gringo Portuguese. :)

9:28am-
Still stuck in Boa Vista due to paperwork on the plane. We might have to Commercially fly to San Paulo and leave the plane here for the owner to come pick up himself and straighten out his paperwork. Will let you know first chance I get.
I'm going river fishing now on some weird looking boat. River is as brown as can be, with big 'creatures' lurking below. Sounds like fun, just wish my Portuguese was better. But, in the end, fishing is fishing, right? :)
Paulo has work to do with the plane, and the authorities, and the owner, etc, so I'm on my own today. All good...quite the adventure so far, I must admit. XO
10:25am-
River Monsters? Boa Vista river fishing today..... Brazilian authorities still being wankers, so I'm hopping on a charter boat. Can't attempt the Amazon without a super early start, so it's fishing time!
Stay tuned for Part Two of Bruce Woodrell's Flying Adventure!
