Kidney for Casey

Casey needs you!

Casey is a little girl here in Golden Gate Estates who tries to go to school at Sabal Palm Elementary when she can, but most times she is unable because she continues to struggle each day. She needs you!

Her family are friends of mine and thankfully Casey’s Mom is a donor match. We ask for support because Casey and her whole family have to spend over three month in California coming up soon. I have watched this little girl go to hell and back since the day she was born. I just hope this kidney transplant will give her a chance at a better life.

As her Mom Sofia wrote;
Casey was born on June 8th, 2007 with several congenital anomalies, the most serious one being renal dysplasia. She was born with only one kidney which was small, malformed, and had 30% function.

Casey also had a large hole in her heart and bladder dysfunction. She has had 10 surgeries and many hospitalizations for infection since birth. She took up to 8 medicines a day, and now requires catheterizations every 4 hours.

Recently, Casey’s kidney went into total failure, and she now has to travel to Tampa for dialysis. Her doctors have recommended a life-saving kidney transplant.
Casey’s mother was tested and is a match. Casey will need to spend 100 days near the transplant hospital before being allowed to return home. This will add to the financial burden as mom will have to take an unpaid leave of absence from her job to care for Casey during this time.
Casey’s family has partnered with COTA to help raise money for transplant-related expenses which have been estimated to be $50,000.

Turkey Turds and Rainwater

November 16th, 2011 Looks as though the Kniolas are preparing for a holiday Thanksgiving, filled with plenty of turkey turds and rainwater! Yes, it's true, we now own two adorable, yet really ugly turkeys. I specifically rounded them up for my husbands birthday since it was coming up soon. I figured since they were only three months old, they would be small enough to hide until his actually birthday. Well, I was wrong! When I arrived to pick them up with my two youngest, I just about fell over dead. They already stood two feet tall! My mind swirled around in shock over their sizes as I wondered how was I going to fit them in this little box filled with hay? How was I going to drive them in my van if they flew around crashing into windows? I knew I was in for an interesting ride home. The boys helped me pick out just the right two as a flock of 12 to 14 other adult turkeys gobble, gobble, and gobbled some more as they followed their owners every move.

Humble Beginnings

Raising four boys in this lifetime has not come easy. Now that I'm down to my last son in the home, I find myself trying harder than I ever, as to humble one's thoughts. His thoughts. Our young generation is struggling. Trying to keep up in today's world is just too much for these fragile young minds to handle. Heck, I'm 53 and I find it a struggle myself. Life is a different ball game in these trying years, but most important, we should tackle them hands on, the best we can.   What is humbling beginnings to me?  Well, if you look into our younger generation now, it's obvious it's all about them. They have no filters, they find themselves so caught up in one's self, they tend to lose value as to who they really are and to those who surround them. (If that makes any sense). I am here to humble those who get a little ahead of themselves, and I find I am doing that more and more with my youngest, Matthew.  Even his brothers are doing the best they can to guide
